I had the Y-DNA37 test done through the O’Shields Project / Family Tree DNA and, as I suspected, my Y-DNA matches Hill Y-DNA, not O’Shields. My great grandfather was John Wesley O’Shields (b. 25 Dec 1844) and was fathered by a Leonard Hill (b. 9 March 1825) in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. I think Leonard’s father was also named Leonard and moved from Providence, Rhode Island to Spartanburg County, SC and established a cotton mill about 1815-16.
